PROPHESY…A PROPHET
Gloria Phifer

This Bible study is finding Jesus in the Old Testament...revealed in the New Testament.

Let’s begin this study with Isaiah 43:10-11 “Savior There is no other Savior!!!”

I hope you have been as interested in this study as I have. It amazes me continually how The Word confirms itself. It is The Living Word of God. Jesus is The Word.

Matthew 13:52 “Every scribe which is instructed unto The Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a man that is a householder which brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.”
To me this means we take the treasure we find in both The New Testament and The Old Testament. The Word is a treasure and we are being instructed unto The Kingdom of Heaven. Thoughts?

So far we have seen Jesus as The Seed of the woman, The Seed of Abraham, The Lion of The Tribe of Judah, The King, The Lawgiver, Shiloh, (The prophesy given to Judah portrays Jesus so beautifully.) We found The Lion of The Tribe of Judah in Revelation. When John looked for The Lion…he saw a Lamb that had been slain. Jesus, The Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world.  Our Savior.

Last week in Revelation 19:10-16. Let’s read it again. Jesus Christ…His Name is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. What stands out to you?

Psalm 2. God The Father will set His Son, His King upon the holy hill of Zion. Notice He will rule and reign. Vs. 8 God will give Him all the heathen (the Gentiles) for His inheritance. How will He rule and reign? What are the instructions given to the kings and judges of the earth?  Who is blessed? Thoughts?

We are going to look at a curse in Deuteronomy 21:22-23. When a man is hung on a tree what is he?  Galatians 3:13-14. What are your thoughts that Jesus became a curse for us when He hung on the cross (the tree)?  Notice vs. 13 Christ has redeemed (paid the price to buy us back) us from the curse of the law. Vs. 14 Once more, we see the blessing of Abraham, came upon the Gentiles (the people who were not in that Covenant of Abraham…have now come into that promise, through The New Covenant, that Jesus made through His death and resurrection.) Thoughts? We receive the promise of The Spirit through faith.

Deuteronomy 18:13-19. Moses prophesied of a Prophet, Who would be coming. This Prophet would have God’s words in His mouth, He will speak what God commands.

Isaiah 52:6 “Therefore My people shall know My Name; therefore they shall know in that day that I Am He that does speak: behold, it is I!!!” We know His Name…as His sheep we hear His voice…Rejoice!!!

Jesus called Himself a prophet when He said, “Matthew 13:53-58. “A Prophet is not without honor, except in His Own Country, and in His Own house.” John 1: 11 “He came unto His own, and His own received Him not.”

John 7:14-17 what did Jesus say about His doctrine that He taught?  What He taught was from God.

Jesus spoke to them in parables. Psalm 78:1-2. “Give ear, o My people, to My law; incline your ears to the Words of My Mouth. I will open My mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old…” Matthew 13:34-35 (fulfillment of Ps.78:2)    Matthew 13:10-17.”It is given unto you to know the mysteries of The Kingdom of Heaven, but to them it is not given.” Who was able to know the mysteries, and who not?

Luke 19:37-44. He gave a prophesy concerning the city of Jerusalem. This prophesy came true in 70AD when Rome destroyed Jerusalem.

1 Cor. 1:30 Colossians 2:1-3 “In Christ are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

We won’t reading this portion but, I encourage you to read it on your own. Jesus told His disciples exactly what would happen in the future. Matthew 24. Also Luke 21.  He foretold them what would happen.

Luke 11:46-54. Jesus said in vs. 50 “all the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation.” What are your thoughts?

These were the people who said, if they lived in the time of the prophets, they would not have killed them. This generation would kill God’s Son, Jesus Christ.

Luke 16:29-31. They would not be persuaded even if One rose from the dead.

Matthew 23:27-39. Jesus would have gathered them to Himself, but they would not. What happened to their house?
Luke 19:28-44. Jesus wept over Jerusalem. They did not know their day of visitation…When The Word became flesh and dwelt among them…they received Him not. Vs. 43-44 what will happen to them?
This is what Jesus said in Luke 13:33 “Nevertheless I must walk today, and tomorrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a Prophet perish out of Jerusalem.  (He said this on His way to Jerusalem…knowing He was going to die.” )

Zechariah 9:9 "Rejoice o daughter of Zion...your King comes to you lowly riding upon a colt.

Luke 19:30-44. The day of visitation. He entered Jerusalem as King. At the end of the week He would be crucified and three days later…Resurrected!!!

Luke 18:31…He told his disciples everything that would happen to Him on their way to Jerusalem.  Matthew 20:17-19.

He appeared to His disciples after the resurrection. Luke 24:36-53.

We are following this thread of prophesy through The OT…seeing it fulfilled in the NT.

Blessed are we that see…blessed are we that hear.
